Trooper Brett Cook, 30, was injured around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday while stopped with his emergency lights going on the right shoulder of I-84 westbound about a mile west of Exit 59 in East Hartford when another vehicle lost control and slammed into his cruiser, said the Connecticut State Police.
Cook's 2017 Ford cruiser was struck from behind by Chad Taylor, 18, of Windsor, state police said.
The accident happened when Cook was parked behind a disabled vehicle and a tow truck during a snow and sleet storm and Taylor lost control while getting onto was on I-84 from I-384 westbound when he lost control, state police said.
Both men were taken to Cook and Taylor were transported to Hartford Hospital where they were treated and released for minor injuries, state police said.
An 18-year-old passenger of Taylor's was not injured.
Taylor was given tickets for failure to travel at a reasonable distance, traveling too fast for conditions, operating a vehicle with unsafe tires, and for not wearing a seat safety belt in the front seat.
